The Manhattan Christian College men’s basketball team came away with a 77-69 overtime victory over Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo., on Saturday.
In the first half, MCC struggled from the floor, not scoring its first points until five minutes into the first half. With eight minutes left in the first half the Crusaders trailed 17-4. In the closing minutes of the half MCC was able to muster a little offense and closed the gap to 26-19 at halftime, despite shooting only 28 percent from the field.
In the second half, the Crusaders were able to tie the score at 56 on three free throws by Josh Camacho. Sage Ruis knotted the game at 60 with 18 seconds left on a pair of free throws that sent the game into overtime. In the extra session MCC took the lead and never trailed, the surge keyed by Lonnie Penner who connected on two 3-pointers. Ruis led MCC with 24 points, while Penner added 21 points and Camacho chipped in with 11.
MCC (4-6) will be back in action on Tuesday at home as they take on Central Christian College (McPherson, KS) at 7:30 p.m.
