MCC men split weekend games

The Manhattan Christian College men’s basketball team split a pair of games this past weekend, losing to Grace University on Friday and then defeating Hillsdale College on Saturday — both in Manhattan.

Grace beat the Crusaders, 75-69, to end MCC’s six-game winning streak. Spencer Plank led Grace with 18 points, while Sage Ruiz was the top scorer for MCC with 17 points. Will Chisam added 13 points and six rebounds for the Crusaders (15-8).

Hillsdale College — from Moore, Okla. — came to Manhattan as the seventh-ranked team in the NCCAA II, but left with an 87-79 loss to the Crusaders.

MCC got off to a strong start in the first half, holding the Saints to 28 percent from the field, with the Crusaders owning a 41-33 leads at halftime.

Hillsdale came back in the second half, however, using a 10-0 run to go ahead 71-67 with less than five minutes to play. MCC answered with an 8-0 run of its own to retake control at 75-71 and never looked back. Hillsdale never got closer than four points the rest of the way.

Ruis led MCC with 27 points, while and Chisam had his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 18 rebounds.

The Crusaders will back in action Friday night at home when they host Ozark Christian College at 7 p.m.
