MCC men fall to McPherson

The Manhattan Christian College men’s basketball team lost to No. 18 McPherson College, 79-69 Wednesday night.

McPherson advanced to the NAIA national semifinals last season.

MCC bounced back from a dismal performance from the night before on the road to give McPherson a battle all night.

The Crusaders held a lead through much of the first half before a late rally by the Bulldogs gave them a 31-30 halftime lead.

With 44 seconds to go, MCC trailed 74-68, but came up with a steal and was fouled. They connected on just one of the two free throws. From there, McPherson was perfect from the free throw line to seal the victory.

“I was very proud of the team and the way they battled all night,” MCC coach Shawn Condra said. “We didn’t shoot great, but we competed hard, which if we will do that we can be successful as the season progresses.”

MCC is now 1-4 on the season and will be on the road Saturday in an exhibition game against NAIA Division-I powerhouse Oklahoma Baptist University.
