MCC men fall to Bethel

By The Mercury

The Manhattan Christian College men’s basketball team went on the road on Monday night and lost 99-88 to Bethel College.

In the first 10 minutes of the game, Bethel was able to open up an eight-point lead only to see MCC trim the deficit to 23-20.

Bethel then responded with a 7-0 run to stretch the lead to 10 points. By halftime Bethel had stretched the lead to 42-29.

MCC was plagued by poor shooting at just 33 percent from the field, while the Threshers shot 48 percent.

Bethel would stretch the lead to as many 16 points in the second half before the Crusaders finally heated up from the perimeter, hitting nine 3-pointers in the second half to trim the lead to 75-71.

But MCC didn’t get any closer than that due to crucial turnovers.

Josh Camacho and Lonnie Penner led MCC with 16 points each. Sage Ruis added 15 points and Matt Doerksen and Jack Mitchell chipped in 13 apiece.

MCC is now 1-5 on the season and will play an exhibition game on Wednesday in Wichita against Newman University.

The Crusaders will begin conference play on the road this weekend as they travel to Iowa and Missouri for two games.
