Mausoleum broken into in Sunset Cemetery

By Katherine Wartell

Riley County police reported that the Wareham family mausoleum in Sunset Cemetery was broken into sometime over the weekend, but said no remains were disturbed or any items stolen.

Michael Mohler, the sexton, reported that the mausoleum’s heavy vault door had been pried open and that a vault shelf had been opened and damaged for a total loss of $4,000.

Lt. Josh Kyle said the incident occurred between 8 a.m. on April 28 and 12:45 p.m. on April 29. He said officers filed reports of criminal damage to property and criminal trespass.

The case is under investigation.
