Marlins compete in championships

The Manhattan Marlins swim team concluded the 2013 summer season by competing in three championship meets at the end of July.

At the Central Section Region VIII Championships in Columbia, Mo., from July 17-20, Pilar Dritz went up against 650 swimmers from throughout the Midwest, swimming the 800-meter freestyle, the 200 freestyle, 200 back and 400 individual medley.

The Marlins competed at the Missouri Valley District Championships in Emporia from July 19-21. Matthew Bandy was eighth in the 100 back and first in the 100 breast. Cameron Beauregard was first in the 50 free, first in the 100 free, first in the 200 free, first in the 100 back, first in the 200 back and first in the 200 IM.

Lauren Cassou took seventh in the 50 breast and eighth in the 100 breast. Egan Dritz was eighth in the 50 breast and eighth in the 100 breast. Marlee Evans took seventh in the 200 breast, while Blaise Hayden was eighth in 200 free, second in 400 free and eighth in 200 IM.

Ruth Perez took fourth in 200 free and fifth in 100 free. Kelly Wichmann was first in the 200 IM, second in the 100 back, second in the 20o free and third in the 100 free.

The Marlins finished the summer at the Missouri Valley Long Course Championships in Wichita from July 26-28. Beauregard was fifth in the 100 free, seventh in the 200 free, sixth in the 100 breast, third in the 200 breast and fifth in the 200 IM.

Amanda Buckwalter was fifth in the 800 free and eighth in the 400 free. Dritz was third in the 200 free, third in the 400 free, fourth in the 200 back, fifth in the 100 back and fifth in the 200 IM. Cassandra Johnson was third in the 100 breast, seventh in the 200 IM and eighth in the 50 breast. Kelly Wichmann was sixth in the 200 breast.
