Manhattan Optimist Sting places third

The Manhattan Optimist Sting 14-and-under fastpitch softball team placed third this weekend in the Bite Outta the Lil’ Apple tournament in Manhattan.

The Sting won their first pool game against the Extreme 8-0 on Saturday before losing two very hard fought games against the Topeka Ice Storm 2-1 and the Extreme 1-0.

On Sunday the sting started off strong beating the Midwest Elite 8-5 in the first round of bracket play, but losing to the Ice Storm again 6-1. 

The Sting is currently 16-6 on the season and will be headed to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend.

Pitching for the Sting is Jordan Ummel, Lindsey Hageman, Sydney Bannister and Kerrigan Simons.

Other Sting players include Alyssa Kulp, Caitlyn Claussen, Allie Martin, Jennifer Griffitt, Katie Hoefler, Savanna Thaemert and Madi Fief.

Guest players for this past weekend were Katie Bussmann and Molly Fiser.

The Sting coaching staff includes Ron Hageman, Mark Claussen, Grant Bannister and Greg Fief.
