A motorcycle crash south of Manhattan resulted in one man’s death Thursday.

According to a crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a motorcycle driven by Jose F. Laureano-Mercado, 29, of Manhattan struck a delineator post in the 2000 block of McDowell Creek Road while traveling north about 5:30 p.m. The crash site is about two miles south of the road’s intersection with K-18.

Authorities said the victim was riding his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve. Laureano-Mercado drove on to the gravel shoulder and was ejected from the motorcycle after hitting the post.  He died at 11:04 p.m Thursday. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

County officials closed McDowell Creek Road to traffic for about two hours Thursday night in order to deal with the crash.
