The Manhattan High wrestling team bounced back from a pair of dual losses this week to go 5-0 in the Abilene tournament on Saturday.
“We were pretty excited - it’s been a tough week for us,” assistant coach Chad Lindsley said. “To come out and finish the week on a high note was kind of fun, hopefully it gets our momentum going a little bit.”
The meet featured a six-team round robin dual format, with Manhattan going up against Shawnee Heights in the last match of the day for the championship. The Indians won that dual 49-30.
Manhattan had five undefeated wrestlers on the day, with Davis Matthews and Austin Chauncey going 5-0, Michael Forshee and Josh Mullin 4-0 and Michael Leeper finishing 3-0.
Earlier in the day, Manhattan beat Abilene (45-24), Shawnee Mission East (51-24), Smith Center (55-13) and Goddard (51-15) to stay perfect.
The winning ways were a change for Manhattan, as the Indians lost to Junction City in a tough dual on Tuesday and fell to Emporia on Friday, 35-22. Manhattan lost five matches by less than two points in a tough night with the Spartans.
