Manhattan girls No. 7 to start basketball season

The Manhattan High girls’ basketball team is ranked seventh in Class 6A to start the season, according to the KBCA rankings that were released Monday.

Wamego’s girls are No. 1 in 4A Div. I, as they attempt to defend their state title. The Riley County girls start the season ranked No. 2 in 3A, behind only Hesston. Valley Heights rounds out the area girls’ teams in the preseason poll, checking in at No. 4 in 1A-Div. 1.

On the area boys’ side, just Valley Heights earned a preseason rank, coming in at No. 5 in 1A-Div. II.
