TECUMSEH — Manhattan rode the mistakes of Shawnee Heights to a 31-6 first half lead and fought off the T-Bird comeback in the second half to win 41-24 on the road Friday night.
Shawnee Heights had a pair of special teams’ mistakes and a fumble to set up the Indians with short fields in the first half, and Manhattan capitalized.
The T-Birds got several big plays in the second half, including three touchdowns for receiver Austen Hubert. But Manhattan was able to control the clock and score enough in the second half to keep the T-Birds at bay.
Manhattan opens district play against Topeka High next week at Bishop Stadium with a share of the Centennial League title on the line after the Trojans defeated Emporia 21-17.
