Manhattan Dirt Devils win title

The 13-and-under Manhattan Dirt Devils captured the Midwest League USSSA A World Series championship, besting the Sharks of Overland Park, 3-1, on Wednesday at the Fountain Bluff complex in Liberty, Mo.

The Dirt Devils went 7-0 in the tournament, which included teams from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska.

“This (Championship) win proves that good things do happen, when you swing the bat,” coach Matt Becker said.

Team members playing in the tournament included Toby Becker, Tyler Beckman, Trevor Gregoire, Zane Kohl, Hunter Kordyak, Mitchell Olson, Kalen Rauch, Dyelan Reed, Ian Russell, and Gunner Taylor. The team is coached by Matt Becker and Sonia Gregoire.

Finishing with an overall in-class tournament record of 17-8 on the season, the team will advance to AA play for the 2014-15 season.
