Man to stand trial for manslaughter

By Tim Weideman

A Leonardville man appears prepared to stand trial for multiple charges stemming from an accident that resulted in the death of a Blue Valley High School student in October.

Garrett Olson, 20, entered not guilty pleas on Monday afternoon as Riley County District Judge Meryl Wilson listed charges of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to stop and remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death and aggravated battery while driving under the influence.

Wilson scheduled Olson’s trial for five days beginning on Nov. 17.

Olson’s charge is in connection to a fatal one-vehicle accident last fall that killed Trevor Redding, 17, of Randolph. Olson was driving the car when it skidded into a ditch and crashed into a rock wall in the 11000 block of LK and W Road near Leonardville, according to a report.

Redding and a 17-year-old boy from Riley were passengers in the car. Redding died of his injuries.
