A Manhattan man was arrested Saturday on various charges stemming from an incident early that morning.
Authorities identified the man in custody as Anthony J. Murphy, 47, of 212 S. 5th St. He was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated robbery , intimidation of a victim and battery.
They said that at about 1 a.m. Saturday, Shannon Ayers, 33, flagged down a Riley County Police Officer and alleged that he had been struck by a male later identified as Murphy while interceding in an altercation between Murphy and a woman. The altercation reportedly took place in the woman’s residence. Ayers reported minor injuries.
The woman, who is 32, told officers she was attacked while in her house by Murphy, who she described as someone she knew. She said Murphy took her cellphone and prevented her from calling the police. The woman also had minor injuries.
The aggravated battery charged stemmed from injuries sustained by the woman. The aggravated robbery charge related to the allegation that the cellphone had been taken.
The intimidation of a victim or witness charge also related to the woman. The battery charge related to injuries allegedly inflicted on Ayers.
Bond was set at $20,000 in Riley County District Court. Murphy is confined in the Riley County Jail.
