Man arrested for burglary

Riley County police arrested a Manhattan man Tuesday evening in connection with a same-day burglary at the Manhattan Arts Center, during which, police said, cash and a blank check were stolen.

Officer Matthew Droge said arts center employees reported the crime Tuesday afternoon and following an investigation, arrested Brendan Rickert, 21, 1525 Humboldt St., for burglary, forgery and felony theft at about 5 p.m. at his nearby residence.

Droge said about $500 in cash was taken from the business, along with a blank check cashed for close to $3,700.

He said Rickert allegedly gained access to the building at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, entering through a door that reportedly had been propped open.

Police would not comment on any evidence that led them to Rickert. He is confined to the Riley County Jail on $7,000.
