Riley County officers arrested a Lawrence man early Tuesday morning for reportedly attacking a front desk clerk at America’s Best Value Inn and breaking a front window in the process.

Officer Matt Droge said police were called to the motel, 1501 Tuttle Creek Blvd., at approximately 2:15 a.m. after Steven Shoemate, 19, allegedly became belligerent with hotel staff, attacking a 23-year-old clerk.

During the battery, he reportedly broke a large window in the lobby.

Shoemate was arrested for battery and criminal damage to property. He was released from the Riley County Jail on $1,500 bond.
