Man arrested after police standoff

A domestic disturbance report led to the evacuation of several homes in the Tuttle Terrace Trailer Park area and the arrest of one man Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened after authorities were notified of an incident at 6030 Tuttle Terrace Lot 23 shortly before 2 p.m. A woman reporting the incident said she had left the home she shared with Brian Elliston, 32.

Officers attempted to make contact with Elliston, who they believed to be inside the residence. But they said he wouldn’t respond to officers’ commands to exit.

The department’s special weapons and tactics team and its hostage negotiator were brought in, and there were reports that several nearby trailers were evacuated because of reports that Elliston might be armed.

Elliston eventually exited the residence with assistance from the Riley County Emergency Response Units. He was arrested for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, felon in possession of a firearm and battery. He is held at the Riley County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
