Man arrested after fleeing cops

Riley County officers arrested a Manhattan man early Friday morning after he allegedly fled from police, drove drunk and battered another person earlier in the morning at Blackstone Tavern.

Police were called to the bar at about 2 a.m. for reports of a fight, Lt. Steve Boyda said.

When they arrived, Boyda said, officers found Naim Alamin, 33, 715 Allen Road, getting into his car. Police said he failed to yield when officers attempted to make a traffic stop.

Boyda said Alamin left at a high rate of speed, heading northbound on Beachwood Terrace. Officers pursued and witnessed Alamin’s vehicle hit a curb, disabling the car.

Alamin was detained, during which time, Boyda said, it was discovered that Alamin had allegedly battered another person at the bar, though no injuries were reported.

Bar employees reported that Alamin had been asked to leave, angering Alamin.

During the investigation, Boyda said, cocaine was also found to be in Alamin’s possession.

He was arrested for possession of cocaine, felony fleeing and eluding, DUI, battery, driving while suspended and refusal of chemical breath test.

He is confined to the Riley County Jail on $6,000.
