Longhorns beat No. 22 K-State at buzzer

By Joel Jellison

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas forward Jonathan Holmes made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from the corner to beat No. 22 Kansas State, 67-64, on Tuesday night at the Frank Erwin Center.

K-State, which had its two-game win streak snapped with the loss, got a shot to fall from Shane Southwell with 5 seconds to go that tied the game at 64. But the Longhorns burned two timeouts with less than 4 seconds to play and set up a catch-and-shoot play for Holmes at the buzzer.

The Wildcats (14-5, 4-2 Big 12), who just re-entered the AP Top 25 on Monday, got a career-high 24 points from Thomas Gipson. Southwell finished with 13 points, including 11 in the second half alone. Marcus Foster and Will Spradling had eight points apiece.

With the win, the Longhorns have now won four straight games, including two straight over ranked opponents. Texas (15-4, 4-2) was led by Javan Felix, who scored 23 points. Cameron Ridley added 18 points.

The Wildcats will be right back on the road Saturday, playing at Iowa State.
