Local woman scammed for $80,000

By Katherine Wartell

Police reported that an 84-year-old Manhattan woman was scammed out of $80,000 from a company claiming she had won a prize.

Capt. Kurt Moldrup said that a company calling itself the Global International Sweepstakes and Lottery Co., told Doris Hofman that she had won a prize, but in order to obtain it, she needed to give money to the company first.

Moldrup said Hofman gave the company $80,000 from June to December, when she realized something was wrong.
