Local motorcyclist suffers broken bones

By Katherine Wartell

On July 2, at 3 a.m., a Manhattan motorcyclist, Jeremy Koontz, 43, was injured after colliding with a deer at the 9700 block of Anderson Ave. Lt. Josh Kyle said there was heavy damage to Koontz’s 2012 red Harley Davidson FXDWG.

After colliding with the deer, Koontz then struck a bridge sign, which resulted in significant injuries to his left side, neck, and shoulder, Kyle said.

Witnesses told police that before the crash several deer came onto the road from a ditch. Kyle said a friend had been following Koontz on a different motorcycle. He said there was no indication that Koontz was wearing a helmet.

Koontz was taken by EMS to Mercy Hospital for broken bones.
