Local ceremonies honor the nation’s fallen soldiers

Three traditional area ceremonies will honor the nation’s war dead on Memorial Day Monday.

The Manhattan Municipal Band will perform at 9:30 a.m. that day at Sunset Cemetery, with a medley of tunes celebrating America. The band will perform again that evening in City Park, in the Larry Norvell Band Shell.

Also Monday, a brass ensemble of the 1st Infantry Division Band will perform at 11:40 a.m. at the Post Cemetery on Ft. Riley.

The Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery near Manhattan Airport will feature Col. Michael M. Neer as guest speaker in its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday. The cemetery is located on Wildcat Creek Road.
