Laura A. Erickson, 101, of Manhattan, died Monday at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan.  She was born Jan. 21, 1912, in Swedeburg, Neb. She was the daughter of Anton and Christina Erickson.

The family provided some of the following information.

Laura graduated from Luther College in Wahoo, Neb., with a teaching certificate in 1931, from the Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing, in Omaha, Neb., in 1939, and from the University of Colorado with a B.S. degree in nursing in 1962.

She worked in various capacities as a nurse at the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Neb.; Veterans Hospital and Orthopedic Hospital in Lincoln, Neb.; Presbyterian Hospital, Colorado General Hospital, and St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colo.; and also at hospitals in Ann Arbor, Mich., and Portland, Ore.

Following retirement from nursing, she moved to Autumn Wood in Lincoln, Neb., and then to Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.  She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hjalmar Erickson, Conrad Erickson, and Richard Erickson.

Laura is survived by her nieces, Dr. Charlotte McConkie and her husband Dr. John McConkie, of Danville, Calif., and Donna Elvik and her husband Ken, of Ames, Iowa; and her nephews, Larry Erickson and his wife Laurel, and Howard Erickson and his wife Ann, all of Manhattan.

Funeral services for Ms. Erickson will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Keith Wiens officiating.  Interment will be at 3 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery near Swedeburg, Neb.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family through the funeral home website at
