LAFA Indians win tourney to end the season

By The Mercury

The LAFA third-grade Manhattan Indians won the NKFL Super Bowl on Sunday in Topeka.

Manhattan was able to avenge its only loss of the season by beating the Blue Thunder 6-0.

The first half was a defensive struggle with the Indians gaining the only first down of the half.

Manhattan scored the only touchdown of the game when a Indians defender intercepted a third-down pass from the Blue Thunder quarterback in the fourth quarter and returned it 5 yards for the score.

The Indians held the Blue Thunder to just 27 total yards, while coming away with a pair of interceptions.

Manhattan ended the season with a 9-1 record, outscoring opponents this season 203-28 with seven shutouts.

In addition to beating the previously undefeated Blue Thunder in the NKFL Super Bowl, the Indians also defeated the undefeated and Kaw Valley League Super Bowl Champions, Piper Pirates, in a game at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Oct. 20.
