Olympic silver medalist Erik Kynard made his return to the runway last Saturday as he flew over the bar at 2.29 meters (7-feet-6-inches) to win the Wildcat Invitational.
This week, the senior was named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week for his efforts. His jump is the highest in the NCAA this season and broke the collegiate dual meet record.
Kynard was the only competitor left when he entered the contest at 2.13 meters, easily clearing on his first attempt.
He also soared over the bar on first attempts at 2.18 meters and 2.23 meters before making 2.29 on his third attempt.
This is Kynard’s third Big 12 Athlete of the Week award in his career, combining indoor and outdoor seasons. It is his second indoor award and first since his sophomore season.
