Kansas State women’s basketball head coach Deb Patterson announced the non-conference schedule for the 2013-14 season this week. The Wildcats’ non-conference slate includes six opponents that reached a postseason tournament during the 2012-13 season.
In the 2012-13 season, K-State played the seventh-toughest regular season schedule in the nation according to RealtimeRPI.com. The Wildcats registered a 19-18 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 WNIT.
K-State will open the season with a pair of exhibition games — Washburn on Oct. 28 and Alaska-Anchorage on Nov. 1.
The regular season will begin with a two-game weekend homestand, as K-State will host Tennessee State on Nov. 8 and Charlotte on Nov. 10.
The Wildcats will make its first road trip of the season when K-State travels to El Paso, Texas to face UTEP on Nov. 16.
K-State will return to Bramlage Coliseum to close out its November home schedule on Nov. 20, to face Wichita State. The Wildcats tallied a 48-43 win last season in Wichita.
K-State will end the month of November with a Thanksgiving trip to the Junkanoo Jam, Nov. 28-29 on Grand Bahama Island. The Wildcats will face SMU on Nov. 28 and will face either Tennessee or Virginia on Nov. 29.
K-State will return home to close out its 2013 home schedule with a two-game homestand. The Wildcats will host Grambling State on Dec. 7, followed by a visit from UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 15.
UC Santa Barbara is led by former Wildcat and third-year head coach Carlene Mitchell. Mitchell has guided the Gauchos to consecutive postseason appearances, reaching the 2012 NCAA tournament and the 2013 WNIT.
K-State will return to the road to end the 2013 calendar year with three road or neutral site games. The Wildcats will visit Hampton, Va., on Dec. 21 to face Hampton for the first time since 1996.
K-State will end its non-conference schedule with two games at the Surf and Slam in San Diego, Calif. The Wildcats will play Dec. 28 and Dec. 30. The other three teams in the event are San Diego State (host), UC Riverside and North Carolina State. K-State’s opponents for the two games are still to be determined by the tournament’s organizers.
The 2014 Big 12 schedule will be released at a later date. The Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship will be March 7-10 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
