KSU volleyball beats Creighton to open spring

By The Mercury

The Kansas State volleyball team started its spring slate of scrimmages with a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22) over Creighton this past Saturday at Ahearn Field House.

Sophomore middle blocker Katie Reininger, who redshirted in 2013, helped power the Wildcats’ attack with 11 kills on a .380 hitting percentage. Junior outside-hitter Chelsea Keating had a team-best 12 kills on a .230 hitting percentage.

The Wildcats bounced back from a narrow first-set defeat, 25-22, before rattling off three straight set wins to claim the match. The third set required extra points before K-State claimed a 27-25 victory. Three of the four sets were decided by three points or less.

KSU will face the Heart of America Havoc Pro Team this Friday at 6 p.m. at the Heart of America volleyball facility in Kansas City.

The Havoc, a professional team that competes in the Premier Volleyball League, features former Wildcat Julianne (Chisholm) Rathbun.
