KSU student joins county race

By The Mercury

Ben Wilson, a music major at Kansas State, officially filed on Thursday to run for District 1 seat on the Riley County Commission.

Wilson, a Republican, previously sought candidacy for the Kansas House of Representatives primary race, but withdrew May 10. He had his sights set on the 64th District seat, which includes Clay County and parts of Riley County.

Wilson told the Mercury he withdrew his candidacy in favor of support for other GOP candidates in the race, namely Susie Swanson — the wife of current Rep. Vern Swanson — and former Kansas State Board of Education member Kathy Martin.

Wilson will be up against current county commissioner Dave Lewis, who is seeking reelection.
