KSHSAA announces new football districts

Starting next season, the Manhattan High football team will be adding a formidable foe to one of the state’s toughest districts.

While Junction City heads southward to greener pastures in District 6, which includes Wichita West, Wichita Southeast and Wichita North, the rest of District 5 will instead get to play Lawrence Free State in each of the next two seasons.

The Firebirds are currently ranked No. 2 in 6A after losing to Olathe North last week.

Elsewhere, Wamego saw a big change after dropping into the lower level of the newly split Class 4A. The Red Raiders will not head West for its district games, traveling to Nickerson, Smoky Valley and Chapman.

In Class 3A, Riley County will be joined in District 13 by Marysville, Minneapolis and Washington County. Rock Creek will be in District 2 with Centralia, newly-formed Nemaha Central and St. Marys.

In Class 2-1A, Valley Heights will play Jackson Heights, Onaga, Valley Falls and Wabaunsee in District 2.

In 8-Man – Division II, Frankfort and Blue Valley will both be in District 1, along with Axtell, Linn, Pike Valley and Southern Cloud.
