For the first time in his career, Kansas State’s Ross Kivett has been named to the Golden Spikes Preseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced on Friday. The Golden Spikes award, sponsored by Major League Baseball, is annually given to the nation’s top amateur player.
Kivett, a senior second baseman, has garnered several preseason accolades since being named Big 12 Player of the Year, as well as an All-American, last year. He has been awarded four preseason All-American honors this season, including three first-team nods.
A native of Broadview Heights, Ohio, Kivett hit .360 with 15 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 39 RBIs and 26 stolen bases last season. He is a career .323 hitter with 42 extra-base hits and 59 stolen bases.
This is the second straight year a Wildcat has been named to the Golden Spikes Preseason Watch List after Jared King was selected in 2013.
