Kenneth Leroy Edwards, 83, of St. George, died Saturday at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. He was a long-time resident of the area.

Kenny was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Winfield. He was the son of Virgil and Eva Robinson Edwards. He was raised on the family farm near Hoganville, Okla. His family then moved to Augusta.

He worked many years in the oil fields as a heavy equipment operator and supervisor for companies that built oil pipelines. In the early 80’s, he moved to Manhattan and worked a variety of positions, including recon manager for Dick Edwards Ford.

He married Martha “Mardi” Vaclavik on March 23, 1990, in Manhattan. She survives at their home.

Kenny enjoyed traveling, and he and Mardi loved to set out in the motor home for trips and camping. They loved to go dancing and Kenny loved old country music. He was an avid K-State football fan. Kenny was known for his love of his family, not only his children and grandchildren, but also his nieces and nephews.

Kenny is also survived by his daughters, Linda Hooser and her husband Pete of Freeport, Texas, and Tina Kennedy and her husband Dennis of El Dorado; his son, Rob Edwards of El Dorado; step-children, Charlotte Stapelton of Marion, Wes Chorn and his wife, Jennifer of Spring, Texas, Ryan Branam and his wife, Dana of Topeka, and Jeff Branam and his girlfriend Sherry Prato of Topeka; brothers. Dick Edwards and his wife Janice of Manhattan, Ron Edwards and his wife Doris of Wichita; sister, Kathryn Keely of Towanda; fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Pat Stormet; his grandchildren, Bridget Hamel and Michelle Kennedy; and his siblings, Harold Edwards and Theda Winzer.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. The Rev. Jim Lowry will be officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, and those may be sent in care of the mortuary. Online condolences may be made at
