KBI issues Silver Alert for missing Onaga man

ONAGA — Authorities are looking for a 67-year-old Onaga man who ran an errand on Friday morning and never returned home.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation issued a Silver Alert for Melvin Potter, Onaga Chief of Police Dan Costlow said.

The man reportedly has dementia and other medical issues that have caused concern for authorities.

A Silver Alert is similar to an Amber Alert, Costlow said — but for an elderly person rather than a child.

Potter is described as white, with thinning gray hair, and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red flannel shirt with brown patches on the elbows. He was also wearing brown boots and brown leather belt. His belt buckle said “Oklahoma.”

Potter was driving a red and silver Dodge pickup with a red topper.

Anyone with information should contact Pottawatomie County dispatch at 785-457-3353.
