AUSTIN, Texas — The Kansas State women’s golf team finished eighth after the final round of the Big 12 Championship on Sunday at the par-72, 6,143-yard UT Golf Course. The Wildcats carded a three-day score of 52-over par 916.
“It is a disappointing finish after playing solid in the first round,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “We got off to a good start today, but were unable to finish it on the back nine.”
Senior Gianna Misenhelter, juniors Olivia Eliasson and Carly Ragains, along with freshman Madison Talley each carded a 6-over 78 in Round 3 to help the Wildcats to a team total of 24-over 312 — one stroke higher than Round 2.
Misenhelter finished her golfing career at K-State with a tie for 19th — her best finish at this event. Misenhelter was very consistent throughout the tournament by carding four bogeys and 39 pars for a three-day score of 8-over 227.
Eliasson and Ragains both carded identical scores in each round, finishing the championship tied for 26th with an 11-over 227. Eliasson collected three birdies in the tournament and improved 14 strokes and six positions from her finish at the 2013 Big 12 Championship where she finished in a tie for 33rd at 25-over 241. Ragains had seven birdies in the three rounds and also bettered her score from last year’s championship by 11 strokes.
Talley carded three birdies on the front nine of the third round, including one at the fourth-hardest hole on the course — the par-4, 344-yard No. 1. Talley finished the Big 12 Championship in 40th place with a three-day score of 22-over 227.
Battling illness that forced her to withdraw from the second round, freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol carded a 14-over 86 in the third round.
Oklahoma captured the team title with a three-day score of 3-under 861. OU also had the top individual, Chirapat Jao-Javanil, who carded a 7-under 209.
K-State finished the season with a 59-80-3 record. The Wildcats will return six golfers from this year’s squad, including Eliasson and Ragains, who competed in every event of the 2013-14 season.
