K-State women’s cross county named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

Following a strong 2012 season, the Kansas State women’s cross country team earned academic honors as well by being named a USTFCCCA 2012 Division-I Cross Country Women’s All Academic Team.

The Wildcat women were one of 200 schools to earn All-Academic honors. Out of those 200 schools, 30 different conferences were represented.

This is the third straight season the women’s team qualified as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team dating back to 2010.

Out of the eight teams who qualified from the Big 12, the K-State women’s cross country team earned a 3.623 GPA, which was the highest in the conference. Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas and West Virginia were the other Big 12 schools who earned the honor.

While the Wildcat women as a team earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, there were other academic honors earned individually this season.

Senior Laura Lee Baird, sophomore Laura Galvan and sophomore Erika Schiller all were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Baird earned the honor for the third consecutive time, while Galvan earned the honor for the first time.

Schiller was one of just 13 women on the list with a 4.0 GPA.
