The 52nd-ranked Kansas State tennis team will conclude the 2013 regular season schedule this weekend, as the Wildcats host Iowa State on Friday at 1 p.m. and West Virginia on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Both matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Wamego Recreation Complex in Wamego. The matches are free and open to the public.
If weather forces the matches to be moved indoors to Body First Tennis and Fitness Center in Manhattan, an announcement will be made through the official K-State Athletic Department Twitter feeds (@kstatesports and @kstate_gameday).
Fans can also receive score updates from the weekend s matches by following the official K-State Athletic Department Twitter gameday feed (@kstate_gameday).
Prior to the start of Sunday s match against the Mountaineers, K-State will honor its three seniors — Karla Bonacic, Carmen Borau Ramos and Ana Gomez Aleman. The trio has combined to lead K-State to 38 team wins, including a school-record 16 in the 2011 season.
The Wildcats (7-10, 1-6 Big 12) will look to halt a four-match skid this weekend and gain momentum toward the 2013 Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championships, which will take place April 25-28 in Norman, Okla.
This season, K-State has been led by junior Petra Niedermayerova and Bonacic. Niedermayerova, ranked No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, owns a career-best 27-9 record this season and needs five singles victories this season to set the school record for singles wins in a season.
Bonacic is 16-8 this season, including a spring mark of 12-5 and a team-best 5-2 record in Big 12 action.
During last weekend s matches, Bonacic teamed with Niedermayerova to go 1-1 in doubles action, as the No. 24 ITA ranked duo improved to 18-10 this season. The win moved Bonacic s career doubles record to 57-58 and tie her for eighth in school history for career doubles wins.
