K-State men’s golf heads to California

The Kansas State men’s golf team will travel to the west coast for the second time in as many weeks to compete in the 2014 Del Walker Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at the par-70, 6,582-yard Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif.

Monday’s first and second rounds will begin with an 10:30 a.m. shotgun start, while Tuesday’s final round will get underway beginning at 10 a.m.

The K-State scoring lineup will consist of Daniel Wood, Connor Knabe, Seth Smith, Kyle Weldon and Alex Carney, while Tyler Norris will compete as an individual.

Wood is coming off a top-30 finish as he tied for 26th in last week’s Wyoming Desert Collegiate at 2-under 214. Knabe and Smith will be playing together as a part of the Wildcat scoring lineup for the first time this season. The duo ended last week’s event tied for 36th and 68th, respectively.

Weldon and Carney will look to get back on track after a disappointing finish in Palm Desert last week. Norris will be playing in his first event of the spring after carding a 78.58 scoring average during four events in the fall.

In addition to K-State, the event field will also include Arizona, Colorado State, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State-Northridge, Denver, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, Minnesota, UC Santa Barbara and Wichita State.
