K-State men finish fourth

AKRON, Ohio — The K-State men’s golf team turned in a fourth-place finish in the 2013 Firestone Invitational at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club on Tuesday.

The Wildcats carded a 13-over 877 and were led by senior Alex Carney and sophomore Matt Green, who finished the event in a three-way tie for third.

Carney and Green continued their solid play, as both golfers finished at 2-under 214. Carney fired a final-round 2-under 70, while Green recorded a 2-over 74 on Tuesday. This week’s result marks the second-consecutive Top-10 finish for each golfer.

Daniel Wood ended the event at 6-over 232 to tie for 32nd place. Rounding out the Wildcat scoring lineup was Kyle Weldon (T57th) and Tyler Norris (89th).

South Carolina-Aiken put together the best score of Tuesday’s final round to claim the team title at 7-over 871. Eastern Michigan’s Stuart Grehan took home the individual crown as he finished at 9-under 207.

K-State will have some time off before closing the fall season in the 2013 Pacific Invitational Oct. 31-Nov. 2, at the Stockton Golf and Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
