K-State in 2014 Maui Invitational

Kansas State has been selected to participate in the 2014 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational hosted by Chaminade at the Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Hawaii, tournament organizers announced on Tuesday.  The exact dates for the tournament will be announced at a later date.

The field for the 31st annual event includes Arizona, BYU, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Purdue, San Diego State as well as host school Chaminade.  Seven of the eight schools advanced to the postseason in 2012, including six to the NCAA Tournament, while five are either ranked or receiving votes in the current Associated Press/USA Today Coaches polls.  The Wildcats could meet Pittsburgh in the NIT Season Tip-Off this week in New York City.  In total, participating schools in the 2014 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational have earned 162 NCAA Tournament appearances, 10 Final Four appearances and won 136 conference championships.

Four other teams will be added to the field to compete in the Opening and Regional Games at a later date.

All eight teams have appeared in the Maui Invitational at least once with both Arizona (2000) and Missouri (1989) winning the tournament.  This will mark the Wildcats’ third trip to the Maui Invitational and fifth overall in-season trip to Hawaii, which includes participation in the 1985 and 1998 Maui Invitationals, a 1993 trip to the University of Hawaii and the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.  The team is 6-3 all-time on the island, including 2-3 mark in the Maui Invitational.  Last season, the Wildcats won the 2011 Diamond Head Classic.
