K-18 facing shutdowns next week

By The Mercury

Officials have announced a plan to close the eastbound and westbound lanes of K-18 during night hours next week.

The plan is to close the highway from east of Scenic Drive to west of K-113 (Seth Child Road) from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. next Tuesday through Friday.

State officials said the closure is necessary to set steel bridge beams over the westbound lanes of K-18, which is carrying head-to-head traffic for eastbound and westbound K-18 traffic. The work is to be completed and the highway reopened to unrestricted traffic at 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Authorities said eastbound I-70/K-18 traffic will still be able to access Ogden, Manhattan Regional Airport and Scenic Drive. Westbound K-18 will have to utilize the westbound entrance and exit ramps at Miller Parkway to continue westbound on K-18. They said drivers should expect delays.

The closures are part of the overall improvement project that will reconstruct a seven-mile stretch of K-18 from Manhattan to Ogden to a freeway.
