Junior 17ers win opener at Zone

The American Legion Manhattan Manko junior 17ers won the opening game of the Class A Zone tournament in Marysville, beating Marysville, 7-3.

Manhattan found itself trailing midway through the game when Marysville scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. But the 17ers would score five unanswered runs, including four in the sixth, to clinch the win.

Parker Beer started the game on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on six walks and one strikeout.

TJ Ladner took over for the next 3 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout to earn the win.

Jace Priddle pitched the final inning and struck out two to earn the save.

The 17ers’ offense was led by Brett Fields, who finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Beer had two hits and an RBI and scored two runs. Alex Fetters and Priddle each had one hit and scored two runs.

Kobe Brown and Dylan Newell each had an RBI.

The 17ers will play Junction City tonight in Marysville at 7. The Zone tournament is double elimination.
