John “Jr.” William Runnalls Jr., 88, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Village Manor in Abilene.

The family provided the following information.

John was born on Oct. 15, 1925, in Clay County to John and Elsie (Hamme) Runnalls, Sr.

“Jr.” was raised in the Longford area and attended Walker Country School. He graduated from Longford Rural High School and farmed in the Longford community all his life.  He married Roween Sheedy on May 31, 1946, and she survives of the home. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Walker School Board and the Athelstane Township Board. He was preceded in death his parents and a sister, Bernice Benfer.

Survivors include his wife, Roween Runnalls, of Abilene; daughters Gwen (Runnalls) Winter and husband Alan, of Robinson,  Pat (Runnalls) Lewis and husband Bob, of Manhattan, Wava (Wolf) Taylor and husband Van, of Abilene; sister Dolores Heigele, of Clay Center; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Longford with Pastor Martin Colborn officiating.

Burial will be in Athelstane Cemetery in Clay County. Visitation will be on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until service time at Bethel United Methodist Church.
