Jennie M. Schmidt, 86, of Manhattan, died Friday at Autumn Hills in Riley.

She was born April 27, 1927, in Altus, Ark., the daughter of Samuel Henry and Mattie Lou (McMinn) Wood.

Mrs. Schmidt graduated from high school and then earned her teaching certificate. She taught in local school for several years prior to moving to California, where she was a Phlebotomist for a local doctor. Following her 27 year career in the medical field, she helped people in their homes.

She moved to Manhattan 7 years ago to be near her sister.

Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, William; and two brothers, Jack Wood and R. J. Wood.

Survivors include her four siblings, Mildred Morris of Lawrence, Mona Padgett of Manhattan, and Samuel Wood and Donal Wood, both of Ozark, Ark.; two children, Alice Curtis and Don Schmidt of Santa Rosa, Calif.; three grandson and one great-grandson.

Cremation is planned with services at a later date in California.
