JC man dead after shooting

A Junction City man is dead after a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Junction City.

The Junction City Police Department and deputies from the Geary County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

Anthony Darnell Nixon, 37, Junction City was found lying at the southwest corner of the intersection of West 10th Street and North Webster Street, suffering from a gunshot wound. Junction City Fire EMS was called to the scene and found that the man was dead.

JCPD officers said they were told that there had been an altercation in the area earlier in the morning, but police had not been called.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing at this time and an autopsy will be scheduled as soon as is possible. Police are asking anyone who may have information on this shooting to call the Junction City Police Department at (785) 762-5912 or Crimestoppers at (785) 762-TIPS.

Those persons calling may remain anonymous, and any information that may lead police to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for this crime may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
