It’s time to stop mocking the T.E.A. Party movement

To the Editor:

On Wednesday 11 December, The Mercury published yet another editorial illustration lampooning the American T.E.A. Party movement, this time from liberal cartoonist Gary Markstein.

Considering that the T.E.A. Party at-large is the one group whose every prediction over the last four years of the looming disaster and now ongoing-train-wreck known as “ObamaCare” is now proven to be 100% correct, isn’t it time to stop mocking and start listening?

Not only does this put The Mercury, editorially, into the shoes of “the boy who cried wolf,” but it is directly denigrating an outstanding group of local citizens who have the solitary distinction of applying thousands of hours of volunteer-work toward a program that is the only one of its kind in the U.S.A., now in its third year of operation as a purely grass-roots-funded event promoting greater appreciation and understanding of the cornerstone of our American heritage, our United States Constitution and associated Founding Documents.

Your legacy to readers of The Mercury decades hence deserves better treatment of exceptional citizens who uphold the tradition of unpaid volunteerism to make Manhattan the city we’re all proud to call “Home.”
