Is the county violating its nepotism policy?

By Ned Seaton

Q: In looking at the Riley County Commission’s agenda packet of Feb. 28, I noticed that the county had hired a person named Blake Vargo as a temporary election worker. The hourly wage was listed at $8.48 per hour and the position was listed as part-time. If Blake Vargo is a relative of County Clerk Rich Vargo, is there a Riley County personnel policy concerning nepotism? If there is a written policy in place, what is the policy? Conversely, if there is no public policy regarding nepotism in place, why not?
