Rachel (Irene) Phillips, 99, formerly of Manhattan, died Sunday in Prescott, Ariz.

Irene was born on Sept. 2, 1914, in Manhattan. She was the daughter of Louis G. and Ester F. (Dale) Davis.  She was a retired civil service employee. 

In 1932 she married Roy C. Ellis.  To this union a son, Kenneth, was born.  They later divorced.  In 1937 she married Leo W. Phillips.  He preceded her in death in 1970.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons, and her sister Lena M. Graves.

Survivors include her son Kenneth Ellis of Topeka; six grandchildren, Deborah Brighton and her husband Tom, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Cynthia Farley and husband John, of Clever, Mo., Christina Leonard, of Overland Park, Michael Ellis, of Overland Park, David Ellis and his wife Elise, of Topeka, Ronald Ellis and his wife Diana, of Topeka; 12 great-grandchildren, Erica Kegley, Daniel Flower, Jessica Dunham, John and David Leonard, Lauren and Ryan Ellis, Joshua, Zachary, and Adam Ellis, Emily and Grace Ellis; and 11 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Esther Umscheid and her husband Clayton of Manhattan, and several more nieces and nephews and great -nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Irene was truly a wonderful and gracious lady who touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.  Family and friends are invited to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. to form a procession to the cemetery.
