Injury at construction site

By The Mercury

Emergency responders were called to a construction site in southwest Manhattan Thursday morning for reports that a person had suffered a possible amputation.

Officer Matthew Droge said the Manhattan Fire Department and Riley County EMS responded to a site across from 125 Fourwinds Court at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

Officials would not release the name of the victim, but said the person suffered a significant injury to an extremity.

The victim was stabilized at Mercy Regional Health Center and then flown to the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Over the police scanner, dispatchers could be heard saying the victim had a severe laceration, with a possible amputation at the victim’s wrist.

Authorities were not releasing the cause of the injury at press time.
