Injury accident on Friday

A Manhattan woman was transported to Stormont Vail after becoming trapped in her car following a collision with another driver on Kimball Avenue and Meadowlark Road at about noon on Friday.

Lt. Josh Kyle said Joan Grondahl, 81, was stopped in her 2002 Pontiac Montana van at a stop sign on Meadowlark Road, when she pulled out onto Kimball Avenue and collided with a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by Katherine Reitan, 21, Manhattan.

Kyle said the Manhattan Fire Department extricated Grondahl from her van and Riley County EMS transported her to Mercy Regional Health Center for a cut to her head and neck pain. He said she was transferred to Stormont Vail Healthcare in Topeka after doctors discovered that she had cranial bleeding.

He said Reitan had a small cut to her face, but she declined treatment. Officers cited Grondahl for failure to yield the right-of-way from a stop sign and no proof of insurance.
