Injury accident involving a pedestrian

By Katherine Wartell

A pedestrian was transported to the hospital Thursday with non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a car while crossing the street at 5th Street and Poyntz Avenue.

Lt. Josh Kyle said that around 9:45 a.m., Kenneth Guye, 46, Manhattan, was driving his red 1999 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound on Poyntz Avenue when he struck Caleb Wasinger, 26, Manhattan, who was crossing the street at 5th Street.

Kyle said Riley County EMS transported Wasinger to Mercy Regional Health Center for a cut to his head and hip and torso pain.

Kyle said officers cited Guye for inattentive driving and failure to yield the right-of-way for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
