Just four days before the Manhattan High bowling team is set to make its home debut at Little Apple Lanes, the boys and girls went on the road Thursday for the Topeka West Invitational.
The boys’ team had the top finish for MHS at West Ridge Lanes in Topeka, taking second place with 2,383 pins. The girls’ team was third in their competition at 2,210.
MHS coach Chris George said the event was a step in the right direction for his teams.
The boys were led by a fourth-place finish from Chris Boydston with 629 pins and Shon Eakes was fifth with 618.
Alex Huerta bowled a 565 and Austin Boerger finished at 547. Reece Wright was at 488 and Tucker Reffit finished off at 445.
Jordan Jackson led the girls’ team with a third-place finish at 622, while Megan Dooley was fifth with 585.
Miranda Dooley had 508 and Kayla Brock bowled a 448 series. Courtney Faucett finished at 434 and Krystyn Winiecke was at 412.
George said the girls’ team had a good day against tough competition.
“The girls faced two of the best teams in 5A in Shawnee Heights and Topeka West and they did pretty good,” he said. “Jordan started out on fire, Megan had a consistent day too. I think the team is getting better.”
The Indians will host Emporia, Shawnee Heights and Junction City in their first home meet of the season on Monday at 2 p.m.
